The Centre is committed to strengthening capacity in health systems and policy research through a range of seminars, workshops, and training programmes. These activities support the continuous professional development of researchers, policymakers, healthcare professionals, and students by providing opportunities to learn and apply innovative research methods and approaches.

Our training activities cover a broad range of topics, including evidence synthesis, implementation science, health technology assessment, health systems evaluation, and systems thinking approaches in health.

Evidence Synthesis and Research Methods

To support capacity building in evidence-informed policymaking, the Centre organised a seminar on “Introduction to Scoping Review Methods” on 22 December 2021. The seminar introduced the principles, methodology, and practical applications of scoping reviews for mapping existing evidence and identifying research gaps.

Health Systems Performance Evaluation

On 9 July 2025, the Centre hosted a seminar entitled “Evaluation of Health Systems Performance in OECD Countries with the PaRIS Survey of Primary Care Experiences and Outcomes.” Professor Jose Valderas, Professor of Medicine and Director of the Centre for Research in Health Systems Performance at the National University of Singapore, shared international experience in the development and implementation of the OECD PaRIS Survey and discussed its implications for evaluating healthcare quality and outcomes.

Health Technology Assessment

To strengthen knowledge and skills in health technology assessment (HTA), the Centre organised a five-day workshop, “Health Technology Assessment: Roles, Methods and Challenges,” in July and August 2025.

The workshop provided participants with both conceptual and practical training in HTA, including economic evaluation, evidence appraisal, and the application of HTA in healthcare decision-making. Participants included policymakers, healthcare professionals, representatives from the pharmaceutical and insurance sectors, academics, and postgraduate students from Hong Kong and the region.

Implementation Science

The Centre hosted the Implementation Science Webinars 2025 from 2 to 5 December 2025. The webinar series brought together more than 17 leading researchers and practitioners from Hong Kong, Mainland China, Norway, Denmark, and Sweden to share perspectives and experiences in implementation science research and practice.

The webinars provided a platform for knowledge exchange on translating research evidence into policy and practice, highlighting applications in public health and healthcare systems.

The Centre will continue to expand its training portfolio to support research capacity building in health systems and policy research. Planned topics include:
